Eight crewmembers rescued after shipwreck in Sea of Okhotsk - emergencies ministry
MOSCOW. Sept 23 (Interfax) - Eight crewmembers were rescued after the Vest reefer sank in the Sea of Okhotsk, the Russian Emergency Situations Minister has reported.
"Eight crewmembers were rescued and they are now on the MRS-046 fishing vessel that had arrived at the scene of the shipwreck. One crewmember, a man aged 43, remained abroad the sunken ship. Another crewmember is missing," the ministry's Kamchatka department said in a statement.
"Eight crewmembers were rescued from a raft by the crew of the MRS-046 fishing vessel. Two others remain unaccounted for. The MRS is heading towards the second raft," the Russian Emergency Situations Ministry said on its website.
According to the Kamchatka territorial emergencies department, the ship sank four miles off the coastline near the town of Oktyabrsky in the Ust-Kamchatka district.
"The Vest capsized late on September 23. The crew managed to get over to life rafts. The MRS is on the way towards Oktyabrsky, where it is expected to arrive in about 90 minutes. Ambulances are in standby readiness to transport the crew to the local hospital," the territorial emergencies department said.
