Singapore to invest in Russian agriculture

SINGAPORE. Sept 25 (Interfax) - Various Singaporean companies have shown interest in investing in Russia's agriculture industry, Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam said.

"Some companies are showing a great interest in investing in Russian agriculture, both on our market and in third countries," he said at a briefing following a Russian-Singaporean intergovernmental commission meeting on Tuesday.

Russia holds strategic interest for Singapore in terms of agriculture because Russia "has great potential for adding new land into agricultural turnover," he said.

Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov said the countries had discussed cooperation in the agriculture industry in the Far East and Tatarstan. "We are expecting an influx of new investment in this sector in Russia," he said.
