Georgian opposition leader Ivanishvili promises to prevent civil conflict in Georgia
TBILISI. Sept 25 (Interfax) - Billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili, leader of the opposition coalition Georgian Dream, has promised that the coalition will not let a civil conflict occur in the country regardless of the developments before the parliamentary elections, which are scheduled for October 1.
"We promise to the people of Georgia to prevent a civil conflict under all circumstances," Ivanishvili said on a live program on Kavkasiya television on Tuesday.
Ivanishvili said Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili is prepared to do everything to stay in power and may resort to provocations.
"However, no matter what happens, [Saakashvili] will not be able to make us take to the streets. We will prevent any conflicts, which is what the authorities have been trying to achieve ever since I came to politics," Ivanishvili said.
Ivanishvili called on everyone to come to the elections on October 1 and vote, saying Georgian Dream is hoping to get 80% of the votes.
