Food prices in Russia increase 3.5 times faster than EU in Jan-Aug - Rosstat
MOSCOW. Sept 26 (Interfax) - Food prices in Russia increased by 4.9% in January-August 2012 in contrast with 1.4% price growth in the European Union, Russia's Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) said in a statement.
Prices for food products in Russia decreased by 1% in July. Food prices in the EU declined by 0.2% in the same period.
Prices for vegetables in Russia increased by 34.9% since the start of the year compared to average price growth of 0.4% in EU countries.
Prices for sugar, jam, honey, chocolates and confectionery in Russia went up by 6.5% in January-August (compared to 2.3% in the EU), meat and meat products - 5.2% (1.8%).
Bread, baked goods and cereal grains went up in price in Russia by 2.7% (compared to 1.1% price growth in the EU), fruits - 2.2% (3.8%), fish and seafood - 1.6% (1.3%).
Prices in Russia for butters and fats went up by 2.6% since the start of the year (1.5% growth in the EU). Prices in Russia for dairy products, cheese and eggs went up by 1.8% (compared to 0.6% in the EU).
