Full-fledged free trade zone could appear in CIS - Ukrainian premier

YALTA. Sept 28 (Interfax) - CIS member countries have the potential and the political will needed to form a full-fledged free trade zone within the commonwealth, Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said.

"The adoption of the Free Trade Zone Treaty opens up new opportunities to our countries because this document will become a starting point in the process of promoting trade and economic relations between our countries at a qualitatively new level and with a new legal framework," he said at a session of the CIS Prime Ministers Council in Yalta on Friday.

CIS member countries will now have to gradually put the principles of the document into practice, Azarov said.

"I am certain that we have the potential and the political will needed to implement our ambitious plans," he said.

Cooperation within the CIS is a priority of Ukraine's foreign policy, he added.
