China "putting out feelers" for Belaruskali privatization bid - ambassador

MINSK. Sept 28 (Interfax) - China is in talks with billion on a possible bid for the privatization of potash miner OJSC Belaruskali, Chinese Ambassador to Belarus Gong Jianwei told reporters.

"As for Belaruskali and the privatization, we haven't received concrete proposals from Belarus. But a very cautious, very tentative negotiating process is under way. I'd describe it as putting out the feelers," the ambassador said.

China is keen to import more Belarus potash fertilizer. "We also receive potash fertilizer from Russia, from Canada and from Southeast Asia, but we are receiving less from Belaruskali. We'd like to import more from Belarus on mutually beneficial terms," Gong said.

Belaruskali and Russia's Uralkali are negotiating the formation of the Soyuzkali joint company. "We'll be working with that company in the future, so that our imports grow," he said.
