Georgia parliamentary polls show 45% turnout by 3 p.m.

TBILISI. Oct 1 (Interfax) - Georgia's Central Election Commission said 45% of registered voters had been to the polls by 3 p.m. in Monday's parliamentary elections.

Georgia has no minimum legal turnout for elections to be considered valid.

Sixteen parties are running for representation in the 150-seat parliament, where 77 seats are to be filled through party ticket polls.

The new legislature will sit in the city of Kutaisi, where a building has been put up for it quickly.
