Georgian opposition leading after tabulation of 25% of vote
TBILISI. Oct 2 (Interfax) - The tabulation of more than 25% of the votes cast in Georgian parliamentary election on Monday shows that the opposition coalition Georgian Dream is keeping a nearly 12% lead over its main opponent, the pro-presidential party United National Movement.
The Central Elections Commission reported on its website that, after 25.17% of the ballots were processed, Georgian Dream was ahead with 53.19% of the votes, while United National Movement had 41.51%.
The Christian-Democratic Movement was the third with 2.31% of the vote.
These figures concern the votes cast on proportional representation tickets. The new Georgian parliament will comprise 77 parliamentarians elected on a proportional representation system and 73 others in single-mandate electoral districts.
