No psychotropic substances found in Kazakh border guard Chelakh's bloodstream - lawyer
ALMATY. Oct 2 (Interfax) - Border guard Vladislav Chelakh, suspected of killing fellow servicemen at the Arkankergen post on the Kazakh-Chinese frontier, has taken another medical test, lawyer Tugelen Berlikozhanov told Interfax on Tuesday.
"A new medical examination of Vladislav Chelakh was done last week. No drugs, poisonous or psychotropic substances were found in his bloodstream," he said.
The Chelakh family has repeatedly expressed concern about his health and suggested that he might be forced to take psychotropic substances at the detention ward.
On May 30, a detail of the Sary Bokter border post of the Usharal border unit of the Shygys (East) regional border service department found the burned building of the Arkankergen border post operated by 15 border guards in the summer season.
The remains of 14 people were found at the scene. The gamekeeper's body was found at a hunter's house nearby.
The 15th border guard, Vladislav Chelakh, was found alive and confessed to the murders.
Later on, the lawyer told Interfax that the border guard retracted his confession.
Doctors said he was sane.
Chelakh was indicted on eight counts on October 1, including the murder of 15 people, desertion and theft of arms.
