No one killed or injured in Derbent synagogue blast - source

MOSCOW. Oct 4 (Interfax) - No one was killed or injured in an overnight explosion outside a synagogue building in Derbent, the Republic of Dagestan in Russia's North Caucasus, a source in law enforcement agencies told Interfax.

"A low-yield explosive device was detonated near a semi-basement outside the synagogue building at 99, Tagi-Zade Street in Derbent. The explosion smashed the synagogue's windows," the source said.

The blast occurred at around midnight, but it was not until Thursday morning that law enforcement services were alerted about the incident, he said.

An investigation is underway.
