NATO-CSTO joint efforts could contribute to Afghan security - Russian diplomat
BRUSSELS. Oct 5 (Interfax) - The delegations of NATO member states working at the alliance's headquarters in Brussels show increasing interest in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Russia's acting envoy to NATO Nikolai Korchunov told Interfax.
"Obviously, cooperation between NATO and the CSTO could become a crucial element in bolstering international and regional security," the diplomat said.
"It is difficult to secure actual results in the absence of the sides' joint efforts in highly important areas such as the fight against international terrorism and drug trafficking, cooperation in restoring stability in Afghanistan, joint responses to natural and industrial disaster and cooperation in civilian planning," he said.
"We see that many members of the alliance realize that they will not be able to cope with this growing scope of problems on their own. Their resources are far from been unlimited, especially given shrinking budgets amid the crisis in Europe," Korchunov said.
