Russia reduces electricity exports to non-CIS one-third in 8M

MOSCOW. Oct 8 (Interfax) - Russia reduced electricity exports to non-CIS countries 33.2% year-on-year in January-August to 8.275 billion kilowatt-hours, the Federal Customs Service (FCS) said.

Exports in value fell 46% to $418.6 million.

The state-owned Inter RAO UES exports and imports electricity from and to Russia. The biggest market outside the FSU is Finland. Inter RAO has said exports to non-CIS countries fell due mainly to a poor pricing situation on the NordPool exchange.

Overall electricity exports were 12.494 billion kWh, down 20.6% year-on-year, and $657.9 million, down 32.15%.

Exports to the CIS rose 26% year-on-year to 4.219 kWh and 22.5% to $239.5 million.

Russian electricity imports in January-August came to 1.72 billion kWh ($51.6 million), of which 1.34 billion kWh from CIS countries ($40.1 million). The FCS did not compare these figures with the same period of last year.

Electricity imports from non-CIS countries fell 29.2% year-on-year to 380.1 million kWh and 24.8% to $11.5 million.
