Georgian Dream backs format of Geneva talks
TBILISI. Oct 8 (Interfax) - The coalition Georgian Dream fully backs the peacekeeping process conducted by the co-chairman of the Geneva talks (the EU, the UN, and the OSCE), the coalition's leader Bidzina Ivanishvili said in a statement released in the Internet on Monday.
"As soon as the new government is formed, we will take an active part in these meetings and will work constructively with all participants of the Geneva format on issues relating to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia with regard for the state interests," the statement says.
At the transition stage, Georgian Dream is ready for constructive cooperation with the Georgian delegation in the Geneva talks to ensure that the transfer of powers to the officials appointed by the new government meets the democratic standards.
"At the same time, we would like to point out the positive role of the EU observer mission ensuring security and stability, as we state out full readiness to work closely with it," Ivanishvili said.
The next meeting in the Geneva format is scheduled for October 11-12. The Geneva talks involve Georgia, Abkhazia, South Ossetia, and representatives of Russia, the U.S., the UN, the EU, and the OSCE.
