22 Azeri nationals sentenced for spying for Iran

BAKU. Oct 9 (Interfax) - The Azeri Court for Grave Crimes has sentenced a large group of Azeri citizens to 10-15 years in prison for cooperation with the Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution, a source with the court told Interfax.

The Azeri National Security Ministry arrested 22 Azeri nationals on charges of preparing terrorist attacks against the embassies and other organizations of the United States and Israel on May 14.

Investigators established that Iran's Revolutionary Guards recruited the convicts to spy and gather information that damages Azerbaijan's national security. Rifles, grenades and explosive devices were seized from the convicts.

The recruited Azeri nationals received necessary equipment and financing from the Revolutionary Guards to spy on embassies, companies and public organizations, including the Jewish Agency for Israel, and the BP-Azerbaijan headquarters.
