Over 60% of Russians want Internet censorship - poll

MOSCOW. Oct 11 (Interfax) - Internet censorship is necessary because of numerous dangerous websites and materials, 63% of Russians told Levada Center in a nationwide poll in September.

Nineteen percent argued that "Internet dangers were overstated and there must be no censorship." Seventeen percent could not answer the question.

State Duma Information Policy and Communications Committee Chairman Alexei Mitrofanov said on October 9 that Russia would not follow the Chinese example and Internet censorship would be mild.
