Militants barricaded in apartment building in Nalchik

ROSTOV-ON-DON. Oct 12 (Interfax) - A special operation to eliminate militants is being conducted in Nalchik, Kabardino-Balkaria, the law enforcement agencies told Interfax on Friday.

"A five-storey apartment building in Ulitsa Lenina, where militants are hiding in an apartment, has been barricaded. The militants responded to demands to surrender with gunfire, wounding a law enforcement official," a source told Interfax.

The entrances to the building are now blocked and measures are being taken to ensure the residents' safety, the source said.

There is information that the militants continue to resist and a decision has been made to eliminate them.
