Heroin trafficking route shut down in Altai Territory
BARNAUL. Oct 12 (Interfax) - Two people accused of smuggling heroin into Novosibirsk from Kazakhstan over a long period of time have been detained in the Altai Territory on the Russian-Kazakh border, the regional branch of the Federal Drug Control Service said in a press release on Friday.
"Both drove people to the market and perfectly knew the border crossing procedure. The smugglers followed a previously agreed scheme. They traveled in two similar Audi 100 cars and used the same methods to hide drugs - each of them carried no more than 100 grams of heroin placed in cigarette packs," it said.
The men were detained after a short chase by officers. Some 215 grams of heroin were confiscated from their cars.
A criminal investigation is underway.
