Life is hard but still tolerable in Ukraine - poll

KYIV. Oct 12 (Interfax) - Half of Ukrainians say life is hard but still tolerable, representatives of the Democratic Initiatives Foundation and the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology told a Friday press conference in Kyiv.

They held a nationwide poll from September 18 through October 4.

Some 50.5% of the respondents said that "life is hard but tolerable" was the best description of the current situation; 19.9% assessed their life as "not bad and satisfactory"; 33.5% said life was intolerable and 4.2% were hesitant.

Some 49.8% of the respondents called the Ukrainian political situation tense; 27.5% called it calm; 3.5% said it was favorable; 12.3% said it was critical and explosive; and 6.9% could not give an answer.

Some 48.4% of the respondents said the Verkhovna Rada election would change nothing; 28.8% hoped for an improvement; and 7.2% said they expected further exacerbation. Some 15.7% were hesitant.

A total of 2,043 respondents were polled in 111 towns and cities throughout Ukraine. The error is under 2.2%.
