Georgian Dream to adjust 2013 draft budget to its priorities

TBILISI. Oct 12 (Interfax) - The 2013 draft budget presented by the Georgian government to the parliament will be revised by the new Cabinet the victorious Georgian Dream coalition will form, candidate for Parliamentary Finance and Budget Committee Chairman, ex-Finance Minister David Onoprishvili told a press briefing on Friday.

"The 2013 draft budget will be revised by the new government, which will bring it in compliance with the election promises of Georgian Dream," he said.

"The draft budget will be submitted to the parliament by the end of November; it will be approved before the end of this year, in line with the constitutional requirements, although that will require hard work," Onoprishvili said.

The Georgian Dream program puts an emphasis on healthcare, social security, education and farming. It is planned to optimize administrative costs and to curtail the shadow economy. The saved funds will be invested in coalition priorities.

The coalition will start with raising pensions to the subsistence minimum, offering a universal healthcare package to all citizens of Georgia, and forming an agricultural development fund, which will give preferential loans to farmers.
