United Russia holds steady lead in regional elections

MOSCOW. Oct 15 (Interfax) - On Sunday Russia saw 4,814 elections of varying levels as part of the single voting day.

According to the Central Elections Commission (CEC), they involved over 22 million people or one fifth of registered voters in Russia.

Amur, Belgorod, Bryansk, Novgorod and Ryazan regions held direct gubernatorial elections which Russia had not had since 2004.

North Ossetia, Udmurtia, Krasnodar territory and also Penza, Saratov and Sakhalin regions elected local parliaments.

Kaliningrad held mayoral elections.

Judging by early reports United Russia holds a steady lead in many parts of the country.
