Azerbaijan sees foreign trade surplus fall 14% in 9 months

BAKU. Oct 16 (Interfax) - Azerbaijan's foreign trade surplus was $11.26 billion in January-September 2012, down 14.4% on the same period of 2011, the State Customs Committee told Interfax.

Foreign trade turnover was $24.56 billion (down 7.7%). Exports amounted to $17.79 billion (down 9.9%) and imports to $6.76 billion (down 1.2%).

Crude oil accounted for 85.7% of exports, petroleum products for 5.4% and natural gas for 2.4%.

The main imports were food products (10.5%), machinery, electrical equipment and parts (27.4%), vehicles and parts (15,8%) and ferrous metals (13%).

Italy received 22.32% of exports, Israel - 8.6%, Indonesia- 7.5% and India - 7.25%.

Imports from Turkey accounted for 15.4% of the total, Russia for 14.1%, Germany for 8.1% and the United States for 6.9%.
