Lukashenko: Most Belarusians support NPP construction

MINSK. Oct 16 (Interfax) - Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko admitted that the decision on building a nuclear power plant in the country was not easy, but now an overwhelming majority of Belarusians approve of it.

"The decision was very hard to make, but we did make it, and now a majority of the population support this decision," Lukashenko said at a press conference for Russian regional media outlets in Minsk.

Lukashenko said that, in making his decision, he argued that a number of nuclear power plants were operating around Belarus, and many of them had been commissioned back in Soviet times.
