Kyrgyz special service detains 5 suspected of plotting terrorist attacks in Bishkek
BISHKEK. Oct 17 (Interfax) - The Kyrgyz special service has detained a group of five people suspected of plotting a number of terrorist attacks in Bishkek, the National Security Committee told Interfax on Wednesday.
The committee conducted a special operation on October 17 "to curb unlawful activities of the terrorist underworld in Bishkek and its suburbs," it said.
"Several firearms, ammunition of various calibers, grenades, remote-controlled improvised explosive devices, and a lot of banned literature were found and seized during sanctioned searches at the place where the detainees lived," it said.
"Members of the neutralized terrorist group planned in the near future to commit a series of terrorist attacks in Bishkek, targeting law enforcement and government officials," it said.
The State Security Committee has opened a criminal case.
