Moscow welcomes Ivanishvili's pledge not to boycott Sochi Olympics

MOSCOW. Oct 17 (Interfax) - The Russian Foreign Ministry welcomes nominee Georgia prime minister Bidzina Ivanishvili's statement that Georgia will not boycott the Sochi Winter Olympic Games in 2014.

"If the media relayed this statement appropriately, we welcome it as positive, and Russia hails the planned participation of Georgian athletes in the 22nd Winter Olympic Games and the 12th Paralympics in Sochi in 2014 in an outstanding display of world sport achievements," the Foreign Ministry's special envoy for the 2014 Olympics, Valery Kuzmin, told Interfax.

"This statement may be viewed as constructive," he said.
