Ivanishvili's wife setting up charity foundation

TBILISI. Oct 18 (Interfax) - Ekaterina Khvedelidze, the wife of candidate for Georgian prime minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, plans to set up a foundation to help people in need.

"Meeting with the catholicos-patriarch of all Georgia, I received his blessing for the establishment of the Otsneba (Dream) foundation of mutual assistance and support to help people living in special need," Khvedelidze said in a statement on Facebook.

"To finance this foundation, my family and I will annually donate 1 million lari (about $0.6 million) and will also see to it that a group of regular contributors be formed," the statement says.

The foundation is expected to start its activity on December 1.

The foundation will help the sick needing urgent medical aid or permanent medical supervision, members of large families and young people with serious illnesses needing medical treatment that cannot be provided in Georgia, and also disabled breadwinners.

"It cannot be ruled out that some other social categories could be added to the above-mentioned ones," the statement says.
