Investigations Committee to probe info about parliamentarian Knyshov

MOSCOW. Oct 19 (Interfax) - The Investigations Committee will continue its probe into State Duma deputy Alexei Knyshov (United Russia faction), who stepped down on Friday, Vladimir Markin from the investigations Committee told Interfax.

"Alexei Knyshov's decision to step down as a parliamentarian and the probe conducted by the Investigations Committee into his business activities are two things that are not related," Markin said.

Earlier on Friday, it became known that Knyshov had decided to step down as a parliamentarian. "I have made a difficult decision to step down as a State Duma deputy," he said in his blog.

Knyshov said he has not engaged in business or activities involving the receipt of profits.

"However, I also understand that any legal dispute should be resolved in a civilized manner on the basis of the legal documents that have been provided. Unfortunately, I cannot provide appropriate documents justifying me and disproving the information that I was a manager of a commercial organization registered in Slovakia," Knyshov said.

In late September, the State Duma commission on control over the revenues of State Duma deputies met to discuss the activities by some parliamentarians and decided to probe the activities of Yelena Nikolayeva, Ilya Kostunov, and Alexei Knyshov.

According to media reports, the parliamentarians had questions about Knyshov's company, which is registered in Europe, and requested more information from the Investigations Committee.
