Prosecutors warn opposition against unsanctioned rallies over the weekend in Moscow
MOSCOW. Oct 19 (Interfax) - The Moscow prosecutor's office has warned opposition leaders against attempts to hold public actions not cleared by the city authorities this weekend.
"In order to prevent possible violations, the prosecutor's office of Moscow's Central Administrative District has sent warnings to public event organizers Pyotr Tsarkov, Yelena Lukyanova, Denis Bilunov, and Yevgenia Tretyakova regarding possible violations of the law," Moscow city prosecutor's office spokesperson Yelena Rassokhina told Interfax on Friday.
A similar warning was sent to Left Front leader Sergei Udaltsov "in light of encouraging people to take part in public events on October 20 before they were agreed upon with the Moscow city authorities," she said.
"Opposition members plan rallies in the central part of Moscow on October 20 and 21, 2012," she said.
"The Moscow city administration has cleared public events in which up to 1,500 people will take part on the central alley of Tsvetnoi Boulevard and on part of Trubnaya Square up to the intersection with Maly Sukharevsky Pereulok. At the same time, Left Front leader Sergei Udaltsov has posted an address on the Internet calling on his supporters to take advantage of the public events on Trubnaya Square to support political prisoners," Rossokhina said.
"Taking into account public response, the rallies on October 20 and 21 could prompt its initiators and participants to violate public order and fail to comply with the law," she said.
This is precisely why the prosecution authorities are issuing this warning, she said.
