Udaltsov calls for protests near Investigative Committee, prison
MOSCOW. Oct 20 (Interfax) - Left Front leader Sergei Udaltsov is calling on opposition supporters to hold protest demonstrations near the Investigative Committee building and its prison in case of opposition activists' arrests.
"Come out and lay siege to the Investigative Committee and the prison where they are placed. If a thousand people come, then this will be efficient, and they [the authorities] might be scared," Udaltsov told journalists at an opposition demonstration on Trubnaya Square in Moscow on Saturday.
Udaltsov said he is "morally prepared for an arrest" but sees no reasons for being arrested, as he is under travel restrictions.
He insisted that an Opposition Coordination Council, whose members will be elected this Saturday and Sunday, should concentrate on "developing a clear-cut program for defending political prisoners."
Udaltsov suggested that the authorities might try to "oust him" out of Russia or prompt him to do something inadequate. "They won't have it. I will be active within the framework of the law," he said.
"Madonna, McCartney, Makarevich, John Lennon and Michael Jackson, had they been alive, should have been defending all of us, not only someone touted," Udaltsov said.
He also confirmed that the website through which people could elect Opposition Coordination Council members has been attacked by hackers.
