Attack against police officers investigated in Makhachkala - Investigations Committee
MAKHACHKALA. Oct 22 (Interfax) - A criminal case has been opened regarding an attack on police officers carried out in Makhachkala on Monday morning, the Investigations Department of the Investigations Committee for Dagestan told Interfax.
The attacker, who was killed in the attack, has been identified as Magomed Gasniyev, 24, a resident of Makhachkala, the Investigations Department said.
A criminal case has been opened based on Article 317 (attempted murder of a law enforcement official) and Article 222 (illegal weapons turnover) of the Russian Criminal Code.
Gasniyev has attracted the attention of law enforcement agencies before, a source in the Dagestan law enforcement agencies told Interfax.
"He was charged with assault this year, but acquitted," the source said.
