Mayak radio hosts Kolosova and Vesyolkin sacked over improper remarks on the air
MOSCOW. Oct 22 (Interfax) - Mayak radio hosts Victoria Kolosova and Alexei Vesyolkin have been sacked over improper remarks during the Bolyachki (Sores) morning talk-show.
"The radio company has severed labor contracts with the two hosts. The morning air format will be reviewed," Mayak Programs Director Anatoly Kuzichev told Interfax on Monday.
The incident occurred during the discussion of mucoviscidosis, also known as cystic fibrosis, in the October 4 edition of Bolyachki when hosts Kolosova and Vesyolkin made improper remarks and jokes about the disease.
Later, Maya Sonina, head of the Oxygen charity program, in an address to Mayak published on her LiveJournal blog, demanded apologies for the hosts' misconduct.
Roskomnadzor, the federal agency for supervision over IT, communications and mass media, is preparing an official response regarding the incident, a Roskomnadzor source told Interfax.
Kolosova and Vesyolkin began Monday's show by offering listeners their apologies.
Mucoviscidosis is an incurable hereditary disease that critically affects lungs and other organs. If diagnosed too late or if no treatment is administered, the death rates exceed 50%.
