Belarus exports 14.5% less potash in 8M
MINSK. Oct 24 (Interfax) - Belarus exported 2.77 million tonnes of potash fertilizers (calculated by 100% active ingredient) in the first eight months of this year, a 14.5% year-on-year decrease, the National Statistics Committee (Belstat) told Interfax.
The average contract price was down 5.9% at $738 per tonne of active ingredient.
Belarus supplied non-CIS countries with 2.67 million tonnes, down 14.2%, over the eight months, Belstat said.
Belarus also exported 121,100 tones of nitrogen-based fertilizer (calculated by 100% nitrogen) in January-August, which was 8.8% less year-on-year. Nearly all of this - 112,000 tonnes - was shipped to the non-CIS, although those shipments fell 8.9% year-on-year.
The average contract price for nitrogen fertilizer exports was down 17.3% at $801/tonne of active ingredient.
OJSC Grodno Azot produces nitrogen fertilizers in Belarus and specializes in the output of technical liquid ammonia, nitrogen-based fertilizers (carbamide, carbamide-urea blends, and ammonium sulfate), technical methanol, caprolactam, and also biodiesel fuel and liquid carbon dioxide.
OJSC Belaruskali is one of the three largest potash fertilizer suppliers on the global market. It produces around 15% of the world's potash fertilizer and accounts for more than 16% of potash exports. It sells its product through CJSC Belarusian Potash Company - Uralkali's trader - and Belaruskali on foreign markets.
