Protest against Razvozzhayev's detention held near FSB building

MOSCOW. Oct 24 (Interfax) - Yevgeniya Chirikova, an environmental activist and a former candidate for the post of Khimki mayor, has taken part in a one-woman protest in front of the Federal Security Service building in central Moscow to protest the detention of opposition activist Leonid Razvozzhayev.

"I was shocked by the information that Leonid was abducted and tortured. I had the impression that I was reading a news report from the GULAG. For this reason, I could not not come to protest," Chirikova told Interfax on Wednesday.

Chirikova said she stood near the Federal Security Service building holding a banner saying "Abduction and torture are crimes."

"If we are afraid and hide in our kitchens, the year 1937 will return. There was a whole line to hold this banner here. And that's only the beginning of our campaign," she said.

Chirikova said the police had cordoned off part of the walk, but did not detain any of the protesters.

Three activists were detained at a similar protest on Tuesday. Administrative protocols were made against them.

The criminal case was opened against Razvozzhayev based on information in the film Anatoly of Protest-2, which alleged that the opposition was preparing to seize power in Russia with money received from abroad.

On October 22, the Investigations Committee announced that Razvozzhayev had admitted his guilt. However, Razvozzhayev later said he had written his statement under torture.
