Japanese citizens try to bring maps distorting Russian borderline to Kuril Islands

YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK. Oct 25 (Interfax) - Sakhalin customs have prevented an attempt to import maps distorting the Russian borderline, Sakhalin customs deputy head Maxim Murashov told a Thursday press conference.

The Yuzhno-Kurilsk customs found such maps in the luggage of two members of a Japanese delegation, which visited the South Kuril Islands in a visa-free exchange in spring 2012, he said.

"The map depicted some of the Kuril Islands and a half of the Sakhalin Island as Japanese territory. We brought administrative charges. The Yuzhno-Kurilsk Court ordered the impoundment of those maps," Murashov said.
