Cherkizovo to build $200 mln pig farm in Far East
KHABAROVSK. Oct 25 (Interfax) - Cherkizovo Group , a major Russian meat producer, has submitted a proposal to the Ministry for Far East Development to build a major pig farming complex in the Far East Federal District, the ministry said in a press release.
Investment in the project would total at least $200 million. The company is proposing to outfit the complex with the latest production equipment, which does not require a large number of service personnel.
The priority regions being considered for the implementation of this investment project are Primorye, Khabarovsk Territory, Amur Region and the Jewish Autonomous Region. The company plans to send representatives to each of these regions in order to select the best location for the project.
The company is considering both a green field project, as well as the possibility of buying an existing operation.
The project could result in the creation of an agribusiness cluster that would not only include commercial pork production and processing, but also production of formula feed, the ministry said.
