Wife of killed militant leader responds to Ingush head's surrender appeal

MAGAS. Oct 29 (Interfax) - The wife of the killed Sunzha gang leader has responded to the appeal of Ingush head Yunus-Bek Yevkurov and surrendered to the authorities.

"Anastasia Alexeyeva (Ganiyeva), the wife of Sunzha gang co-leader Timur Khayauri killed in a police operation in Ordzhonikidzevskaya in September 2012, has responded to the appeal for return to peace. The woman was missing for about a year; the police suspected her of joining the militants, but she surrendered to the authorities on October 25, 2012," Ingush Security Council Secretary Ahmed Kotiyev told Yevkurov in Magas.

He told the republican head about the hotline with wanted militants, which had opened recently by Yevkurov's demand.

Yevkurov said that the republican Security Council must control the adjustment of former militants to normalcy.

"Militants and their abettors must receive psychological support upon their surrender. They must know that persons who volunteer to stop illegal activity and to lay down arms shall be exempt from prosecution unless they are guilty of other crimes," Yevkurov said.

Earlier Yevkurov called on militants to stop the illegal activity and to return to constructive labor.

He offered militants to return home, to repent, to rejoin their families and to live a normal life.

"I promise those of you, who have not committed crimes, that your adaptation will be helped and your punishment will be minimal. I give you my phone number, 8 (928) 093-2929, so that you can call me; you should take my offer," the appeal said.
