Russia will insist on strict observance of Russia-U.S. adoption agreement - Lavrov
MINSK. Oct 30 (Interfax) - Russia hopes that the United States will strictly abide by the adoption agreement that takes effect on November 1, and that Russian officials will be given access to the adoptive families of Russian children, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
"From November 1[access to adopted children] will become legally binding in Russia and the United States, and we will insist that this obligation be observed fully and honestly," he said at a news conference in Minsk after a meeting of the Russian and Belarusian foreign ministries' senior officials.
In practice, the U.S. authorities continue the practice of denying access to adopted Russian children, he said. Access is being denied currently to a boy adopted by an American family, Lavrov said.
