New plan on Syria was not discussed in Moscow - Gatilov

MOSCOW. Oct 31 (Interfax) - The new plan proposed by UN and Arab League special envoy to Syria Lakhdar Brahimi was not discussed during his visit to Moscow, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov said.

"The specifics were not discussed because Brahimi has really carried out a whole number of contacts in the capitals of countries and has visited the Middle East, Syria and other countries. He left Moscow for Beijing. I think he may have some ideas after this round of consultations. However, he did not tell us any specifics," Gatilov told reporters on Wednesday.

Russia links all further steps on the settlement of the Syrian issue with the final Geneva communique.

"We believe that [the Geneva communique] is still vital and constitutes the necessary foundation for further launch of political settlement in Syria. For this reason, we are ready for any formats, both in the framework of the action group and in other formats of consultations with our partners, including those involving the Americans and Brahimi," he said.
