United Russia's Young Guard pickets Moscow Mormon's Office

MOSCOW. Nov 1 (Interfax) - United Russia's Young Guard is picketing the Moscow office of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the Mormon Church), a Young Guard source told Interfax on Thursday.

"Ten activists are standing near the sect's office. They are chanting, "Down with Totalitarian Sects", "Farewell to the Sect", "Down with Foreign Agents" and "Boo the CIA"," he said.

The source said that the protest had been permitted by the city authorities.

The activists want to meet with a Mormon representative for handing over an oversized ticket to Washington.

Similar actions will be held near Mormon offices in other Russian cities.

A Young Guard representative told Interfax earlier they decided to hold the action after President Vladimir Putin had urged resistance to totalitarian sects operating in Russia. "Being a public organization, Young Guard wants to call attention to the dubious activity of totalitarian sects, including Mormons," he said.
