Police searching City Without Drugs fund's addresses in Yekaterinburg
YEKATERINBURG. Nov 2 (Interfax) - Police searches are being conducted at several addresses linked to the City Without Drugs fund in Yekaterinburg, spokesman for the Sverdlovsk region's top investigative agency Maxim Chalkov told Interfax.
The fund's office, a drug rehabilitation center for men and the fund leader's apartment are being searched, he said.
People barricaded themselves in the drug rehabilitation center and would not let police in for ten minutes before the search began, a source in the regional police said.
City Without Drugs lawyer Anastasia Uderevskaya wrote in her LiveJournal blog that a search is being conducted in fund vice president Yevgeny Malenkin's apartment.
Reports said earlier that employee of a City Without Drugs rehabilitation facility Igor Shabalin had been charged with illegally confining six women. He was arrested.
The women had been held at the rehabilitation center in the town of Sarapulka against their will all through 2012, according to investigators.
An investigation is underway into the death of a patient of a City Without Dugs rehabilitation facility, Tatyana Kazantseva, 29, who was taken to a hospital on June 8 after she felt unwell. The woman died on June 17. No one was charged in connection with Kazantseva's death.
