Generals Shamanov, Gerasimov not offered new jobs so far - source
MOSCOW. Nov 8 (Interfax-AVN) - Neither Russian Airborne Troops Commander Col. Gen. Vladimir Shamanov nor Central Military District Commander Col. Gen. Valery Gerasimov has been offered new posts, a Defense Ministry spokesman told Interfax-AVN on Thursday.
"General Shamanov is vacationing abroad at the moment. He has not had any meetings with the newly appointed defense minister," he said.
After a session at the ministry, Gerasimov personally informed recently appointed Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu about Russian soldiers' living standards and conditions of military service, the spokesman said.
The Defense Ministry will certainly be reshuffled, "but it will not be done in a hurry," he said.
The gazeta.ru online newspaper reported earlier, citing an unnamed source, that Gerasimov would be appointed General Staff chief and Shamanov would become deputy defense minister.
