Non-CIS imports to Russia up 5% to $222.6 bln in 10M - FCS

MOSCOW. Nov 9 (Interfax) - Imports to Russia from non-CIS countries reached $222.604 billion in January-October 2012, up 5.06% year-on-year, the Federal Customs Service (FCS) said in its preliminary materials.

Non-CIS imports totaled $26.02 billion in October alone, up 17.6% from September of this year. Year-on-year, imports from non-CIS countries were up 8.1% in October.

Russia boosted imports of chemical products by 21.7% year-on-year in October, imports of food goods - 15.5%, textile items and shoes - 11.9%, and machine-building products - 1%.

Of food imports, Russia purchased 37.5% less cereals and 0.5% less vegetable oil. However, it ramped up tobacco imports 60%, vegetable imports - 27.2%, meat and byproducts - 25.6%, dairy products - 20.5%, fruit - 16.4%, sugar - 9.3%, fish - 6.9% and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages - 1.7%.

Among chemical products, Russia raised imports of pharmaceutical products by 30.2%, polymers and rubbers - 25.8%, soap and synthetic detergents - 21.8%, perfumes and cosmetics - 14.9%, and organic and nonorganic chemicals - 11.8%.

Among textile goods and footwear, Russian imports of textile clothing fell 3.3%, and imports of chemical fiber were down 3%. However, imports of cotton grew 48.7%, knitted fiber - 27.2%, shoes - 22.9%, ready textile goods - 22.4%, knitted clothing - 9.1%, textile materials - 8.5% and chemical thread - 8.1%.

Purchases of vessels and other floating equipment plummeted 79%, and aircraft imports fell 35.9%. Imports of optical instruments and devices, meanwhile, rose 46.3%, railway locomotives - 40.9%, electronic equipment - 11.7%, mechanical equipment - 7.2% and ground-based transportation - 3.9%.
