Udaltsov believes Left Front may be accused of extremism
MOSCOW. Nov 9 (Interfax) - After meeting with prosecutors, opposition activist Sergei Udaltsov became convinced that the law enforcement agencies plan to raise the question of banning the Left Front movement.
"I have just been questioned in the prosecutor's office. The questioning lasted for more than two hours. I became convinced that the law enforcement agencies are working closely on opposition activists," Udaltsov told Interfax on Friday.
"The prosecutor asked many questions, in particular, about the sources of financing of Left Front, the involvement in its activities of earlier banned organizations such as the Movement Against Illegal Migration and Slavic Union, and whether there are people with a criminal record among the members of our movement," he said.
"I answered most of these questions in the negative," the opposition activist said.
"Those questions made it clear to me again that they are trying to find a reason to accuse us of extremism," Udaltsov said.
Udaltsov said the prosecutors told him about the plans to summon other Left Front activists, adding that the probe against the organization will last for about one month.
"They have taken for investigation the charter and program of Left Front and samples of our print publications. They promised to inform us about the results of the probe," he said.
"I remain calm because I know that there are no indications of extremism in our activities. I hope there will be no distortion of facts and the decision will be legal," he said.
