All Su-24 bombers in Russia grounded pending probe into Friday incident
MOSCOW. Nov 10 (Interfax-AVN) - All Russian Air Force's Su-24 frontline bombers have been grounded pending a probe into a Friday incident involving such a plane in Morozovsk, the Rostov region, Col. Igor Konashenkov, a Defense Ministry spokesman, told Interfax-AVN on Saturday.
"The Air Force commander has ordered suspending flights of Su-24 planes," Konashenkov said.
It was reported earlier on Saturday that a Su-24 had been destroyed by fire at the Morozovsk military airfield in the Rostov region after overrunning the runway. The pilots ejected.
The Emergency Situations Ministry's local center said it received a fire report at 1:15 a.m. Moscow time Saturday.
The Rostov regional office of the Emergency Situations Ministry said the plane's drag chute was torn off during the landing, causing the plane to overrun the runway by 1,500 meters. No destruction was recorded on the ground.
