RZD expects container transport to increase 11% to 3 mln TEU in 2012

ASTANA. Nov 13 (Interfax) - Container transport through OJSC Russian Railways' (RZD) network in 2012 is forecast to go up by 11% to 3 million TEU, the company's vice-president, Salman Babayev, said at the Third International Railway Business Forum "Strategic Partnership 1520: Central Asia" in Astana on Tuesday.

"Around 3 million containers in 20-foot configuration will be transported through RZD's network in 2012. This is an increase of 11%," he said.

Babayev added that planned container transport should increase by 9% annually and reach 6.5 million TEU by 2020. At the same time, potential growth might come to 15%, reaching 9.5 million TEU by 2020.
