CSTO may form committee of general staff chiefs - Bordyuzha
MOSCOW. Nov 15 (Interfax-AVN) - An aviation component and a committee of general staff chiefs should be formed in the unification of combat potentials of Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha told reporters.
"What does the formation of CSTO forces mean? First of all, it means joint military operation planning, unified control and command, unified combat training and unified procurement and logistics," he said.
Earlier reports said that the CSTO forces would combine all the defense and law enforcement elements of the organization, such as peacekeeping units and the Collective Operative Reaction Force - military units, special police forces, security forces and emergency situations ministry forces.
"We think that the collective forces should have some other components, as well. For instance, the unified aviation component," Bordyuzha said.
"It is also necessary to change approaches to pure military planning," he said.
"We are lacking only a council of defense ministers. It would be preferable to unite chiefs of general staffs who elaborate national military planning concepts. We propose to set up a military committee of chiefs of general staffs in the CSTO format," Bordyuzha said.
He noted that the unification of defense and law enforcement elements would not enlarge their personnel. "Probably, new structures will appear to fulfill the goals of upgrading military cooperation," he said.
"We think it is necessary to discuss an improvement of military-technical cooperation with our allies," he said.
Military activity "is the most sensitive area in each country," he added.
