Siemens ready to build subway cars if Moscow places orders
MOSCOW. Nov 15 (Interfax) - Siemens is prepared to localize in Russia the production of subway cars in the event Moscow places an order, company President in Russia Dietrich Moeller said during a Thursday briefing.
Moeller said that producing this kind of rolling stock would be justifiable if at least 900-1,000 are required. The production site in that event should be located outside the Russian capital, near the sales market, he said.
Siemens is ready to compete with other suppliers in a Moscow city administration tender, Moeller said.
The German company considers a subway car tender in the Moscow region a priority, he said. "A large tender for the Moscow Metropolitan is being prepared for this year. At issue is the supply of 2,500 cars before 2020, and as for the Metropolitan, we've decided that we will be taking part," he said, expressing the view that Siemens does have a chance of winning at least part of the tender.
He said that Siemens is prepared to offer the capital "underground" trains built on the Inspiro platform. Earlier, 35 such six-car trains costing EUR 272 million were ordered from a consortium of Siemens and Poland's Newag, which operates the Warsaw subway Metro Warszawskie. The Inspiro was presented in 2010. Production of the trains involves the use of light constructions and modern couplings that allow power consumption to be lessened.
Moeller also said that it might not only be rolling stock supplied to the Metropolitan, but also services in the build-up of infrastructure, including power-supply, the introduction of energy-saving technology, and means of automation.
