Zyuganov accuses federal channels of failing to fulfill law on parties equal access to television
MOSCOW. Nov 19 (Interfax) - Russian Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov said federal television channels are not fully observing the law on equal access of political parties to television.
"Our party is monitoring the time provided by different television channels to parties represented in the State Duma," Zyuganov said at a seminar on the interaction between the legislative authorities and the mss media on Monday.
Zyuganov said, citing studies conducted by the Communist Party that the situation has recently improved on two television channels - Rossiya 1 and Ren TV. "Each of them gives 40% of the air time to the ruling party and the other parliamentary parties get 10% to 20% of the airtime provided for these purposes," he said.
Zyuganov also reiterated that Rossiya 24 observes the legislation the closest.
He also said Channel One gives 55% of its airtime to United Russia activities.
The Communist Party leader was the most pleased by the coverage of the party's activities by NTV and TVTs.
Zyuganov also said federal television channels are not reporting on landmark events marked by the Communist Party and its supporters.
