Power Machines to finish manufacturing equipment for Novovoronezh NPP-2, Leningrad NPP-2 by 2014

ST. PETERSBURG. Nov 20 (Interfax) - OJSC Power Machines will finish manufacturing equipment for the second Novovoronezh Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) and the second Leningrad NPP by 2014, a representative of the company told reporters on Tuesday.

Power Machines has already completed the second turbine for the Novovoronezh NPP-2, and the assembly and testing of the Leningrad NPP-2's second turbine are slated for the third quarter of 2013.

The company manufactured the first speed turbine intended for the Novovoronezh NPP-2's first power unit in December 2010, and it produced the same equipment for the Leningrad NPP-2's first unit in September 2011.

Power Machines and OJSC Atomenergoprom signed contracts for components of the main equipment for the turbine island for the two under-construction NPPs in May 2008. These contracts combined were worth more than 40 billion rubles. Each NPP will get two power units with VVER reactors, capacity 1,200 MW each.

According to the contracts, Power Machine will design, manufacture and supply four complete turbine units for the two NPPs' power units, including steam turbines, capacitors and the main auxiliary equipment for the turbine unit, as well as four turbine generator sets with equipment for the auxiliary systems, excitation system and exciter.

Power Machines finished manufacturing the head speed turbines and generator for the Novovoronezh NPP-2 in 2010 and 2011. At the moment, steam turbine equipment is being installed at the first power unit's turbine island. Power Machines continues to manufacture turbine equipment for the second power unit.

The Novovoronezh NPP-2 and Leningrad NPP-2 are the first NPPs to be built in Russia from scratch in the last 15 years.

Power Machines produces and supplies equipment for hydro-electric power plants, power plants, combined heat and power plants and nuclear power plants. Its facilities are located in the Leningrad and Pskov regions, as well as St. Petersburg and Kaluga.
