Border guard Chelakh tries to mutilate himself in courtroom, refuses to attend hearings

TALDYKORGAN. Nov 21 (Interfax) - Kazakh border guard Vladislav Chelakh accused of killing 14 fellow servicemen and a huntsman stabbed himself with a sharp object and was led out of courtroom on Wednesday.

Chelakh bent and mutilated himself while he was in the dock, an Interfax correspondent reported from the scene. He was led out of the courtroom immediately.

Aggrieved persons shouted, "Tell us what happened! Let him talk!" Chelakh replied, "I will say nothing. I refuse to attend court hearings!"

The judge ordered to find out where the defendant had acquired the sharp object.

A court source told Interfax Chelakh "had tried to slash his veins".

The border guard and some parties to the trial, who felt unwell, are receiving medical aid.

Chelakh's trial has begun at the Taldykorgan court.
