Russian diplomat optimistic upbeat about P5+1 principles
BRUSSELS. Nov 21 (Interfax) - A Russian deputy foreign minister claimed on Wednesday that the P5+1, the group of nations holding talks with Tehran on the Iranian nuclear program issue, has adopted the principle of each side gradually satisfying the other's expectations.
"I won't get into word juggling, I just want this thought to be illustrated with the fact that, in a situation where there is extremely little confidence between Iran and the [P5+1] - in effect, there is none at all, - achieving a breakthrough and a definitive solution to this problem is an extremely difficult task even from the point of view of the dynamics and sequence of moves," Sergei Ryabkov said.
Ryabkov took part in P5+1 talks at the level of foreign ministry political directors in Brussels on Wednesday.
The P5+1 countries are the five permanent UN Security Council members - the United States, Britain, France, Russia and China - and Germany.
"There simply won't be any results without efficient reciprocity, without well-considered reciprocal steps," Ryabkov said. "It's a path that has no alternative. It's good that there is a realization of this both within the [P5+1] and, the way we see it, there is a complete realization of it on the Iranian side as well."
